QuickUpload Plugin WordPress Dashboard Widget
Every once in a while I like to look through the latest plugins on the WordPress.org plugin directory to see what is happening in the WordPress world. Today I found this interesting little plugin called QuickUpload, and I thought it looked worthy of a test-install and brief review.
What does the QuickUpload Plugin Do?
This plugin has one purpose and one only, to make your media uploads one click closer, and thus faster to do. QuickUpload does this by adding a dashboard widget to your WordPress install that contains the media drag and drop uploader. Because you now have a media/image upload form in the dashboard default screen, it takes much less time to just drop an image into the library.
Cleverly, the image details edit fields are also available right in the dashboard once your file has uploaded, so you don’t have to go to the media library to finish adding the Title, Description, and Captions for your newly uploaded images. Saving the edits to the uploaded file details can be done from the dashboard widget too, though it does load the full library page on Saving.
Less Processing Overhead Means Faster Image Uploads
One thing I really liked was that it feels like it takes less time for the widget to load in the dashboard screen than for the full media library also, since the normal media library has more overhead in parsing data for many images that you might not need to look at or edit.
So far the QuickUpload plugin seems to work well. It installed smoothly on my testing blog, and worked as expected, so it look like a fairly solid offering from the developer.
A nice idea for those who handle lots of images and just want to drop it in there quickly.
